Applications are invited for a PhD student position, to work on a collaborative research project, to be carried out jointly at IIS Biodonostia and CIC biomaGUNE, two first class research centers located in San Sebastian (Spain). The project revolves around the preparation of printable bioinks to produce 3D scaffolds using a bioprinter.
The funded PhD thesis will focus on the preparation of bioinks to develop a library of printable inks with suitable properties for 3D cell cultures, capable of in situ sensing of cell metabolites.
The main objectives of the thesis will be:
- reparation of different ink formulations
- Evaluation of the printing characteristics to meet the requirements of the ideal scaffolds
- Hands-on 3D bioprinter and 3D modeling.
- Scaffold validation in in vitro cell culture and biosensing performance.
The work will be carried out at the Tissue Engineering Group and 3D Biofabrication Unit at IIS Biodonostia and the Bionanoplasmonics Laboratory of CIC biomaGUNE, under the joint supervision of Prof. Ander Izeta and Prof. Luis M. Liz-Marzán.
A Master’s degree in a relevant area of Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or similar is required. Additional experience in biomaterials testing, 2D-3D cell culture systems and 3D printing would be appreciated.
The position is for up to three years, starting no later than November 1, 2019.
Application procedure: Candidates should submit a motivation letter, CV and the contact information of two referees using the available template and indicating Job Offer Code «321-PhD_Student» as the job offer reference.
Informal enquires by highly motivated applicants should be addressed to Dr. Ander Izeta (ander.izeta@biodonostia.org) or Prof. Luis Liz-Marzán (llizmarzan@cicbiomagune.es)
